PI accused of bribing policeman
Malcolm Brown SMH - July 2007
A private inquiry agent has been accused of paying more than $17,000 to a police officer for improper services, court papers show.
Policeman Stephen Richard Evans, 47, of Glenfield, received an initial payment of $300 on February 27, 2003, according to a court charge sheet.
He received a further $17,150 in amounts of between $200 and $500 till the last payment on November 11 last year.
The agent, Janice Seeto, 50, of Goulburn, faces charges of having paid those amounts, plus an additional charge of having offered a bribe to another police officer, Alannah Michelle Davies, between November 22 and December 1 last year.
In Downing Centre Local Court today, solicitor Eric Oates, for Evans, told the registrar that the Director of Public Prosecutions was taking over the prosecution.
Seeto has already retained the services of barrister Shane McAnulty. The cases have been adjourned till July 24 for reply to the briefs.
